In the spring of 2009 Adventures in Learning k-12 gathered a group of community members to discuss the possibility of a new charter school in Colorado Springs. The committee’s discussion began with one question, “Is the current “one size fits all” traditional education philosophy working for our children?” The answer: Students in our community need more options and more opportunities to succeed.
From that discussion developed an idea: A school that opens doors for students—doors to future education, career opportunities, and responsible productive citizenship. A school preparing today’s student for a tomorrow not yet created. A school where students can discover their passions and chase their dreams. A school focused on creating pathways to success after high school. That discussion lead to the development of Adventures in Learning Career Academies.
Adventures in Learning Career Academies (ALCA) is committed to providing students with the skills needed to compete in the job market upon high school graduation. Students who attend ALCA will not only seek a high school diploma but also an associate’s degree or technical certification. Also, through partnerships with local businesses ALCA will offer internship opportunities to students. Students who graduate from ALCA will understand what it takes to build a successful career and have the skills to make it happen.
